What is the right career direction for me?

Are you wondering which career direction is right for you? Whether you're a new college student on campus or a college student preparing for graduation, deciding on a career can be very difficult. To select the right career path, you must know something about yourself and how to find the right career that will best suit your goals. The career you choose helps shape your identity and sense of self-worth.

You may be one of many college students who think of a career as a "one time" decision. But in reality, finding a career is an ongoing process that requires time and patience. Making good career decisions is all about the learning process.

How does CDSE help students prepare for a career?

The Center for Career Development & Student Employment (CDSE) provides college students with the necessary tools in making the right choices on setting a career path. Each month, CDSE will feature a "Career of the Month," showcasing job opportunities, career resources, and other valuable tools to guide students into endless possibilities.

Create a list of your personal attributes

The most important aspect of finding a career is learning about yourself. The more you know about yourself, the better career decisions you can make. Creating a list of your personal attributes will help you get where you want to be. Below you will find a list of the steps to learn more about yourself to find out what kind of career you'll be interested in.

Consider the following factors about yourself to figure out what kind of career you'd be interested in. These factors will affect the way you look at a career. Once you are able to create a list of personal attributes, the next step is to share your research findings with a career counselor.
